Supplement and Complement Definition

Supplement

A supplement is a product that provides nutrients in a synthetic or isolated form. Isolated means that the Vitamin or nutrient has been extracted from a whole food source such as a piece of broccoli and is absent of the thousands of naturally occurring compounds that occur in that piece of broccoli.. There are several forms of Vitamins that exist in the whole food source. For example in Vitamin E and Vitamin C there are multiple types of molecular structures of  Vitamins that may be found in a given food and their are powerful synergies and health benefits when we get the full spectrum of that Vitamin or nutrient compound. The body does not recognize as easily synthetic or isolated nutrients and therefore there effectiveness is drastically lower than when nutrients come from their original food source. In fact some isolated nutrients can cause health issues when taken alone. Supplements are easy to recognize. The ingredient label list vitamins IE.. cynocobolamine, pyroxidine, asorbic acid, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, instead of foods and will then show other ingredients such as cellulose, magnesium sterate.

Complement

A complement is a product that provides nutrients as they exist in nature from their original food source. Because the nutrients are coming from their food source the nutrients have the markers that let the body know nutrients are available for digestion and assimilation. Furthermore studies have shown that when nutrients are ingested as they occur in nature they work together in a much more powerful way. You are not just getting a mix of  Vitamins and Minerals, you are getting all of the naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, enzymes, essential fatty acids, fiber, protein, carbohydrates, probiotics, glycolipids, glycosaccarides, phytosterols and an array of antioxidants not just one. When nutrients are received from their food sources they have a very powerful health benefit for the body. Studies show that phytonutrients occurring together in nature act together in some ways to protect each other and to actually make the other stronger. The ingredient list of a compliment will show foods IE.. rice bran, powdered broccoli, kale, spinach, garlic, tomatos, beets, inulin etc....
